The Story of The Waltham Historical Society

The Waltham Historical Society, Incorporated, is the successor of the voluntary Association known as the Waltham Historical Society which originated at the suggestion of Mr. Frank H. Damon at a meeting of a few interested men held at the Public Library then at the corner of Charles and Moody Streets, on January 23rd, 1913. The following were present: Thomas H. Armstrong, Michael J. Connolly, Frank H. Damon, Orlando C. Davis, John L. Harvey, Robert Murray, Albert M. Ryan, Alexander Starbuck, and Nathan Warren.

Armstrong, Michael J. Connolly, Frank H. Damon, Orlando C. Davis, John L. Harvey, Robert Murray, Albert M. Ryan, Alexander Starbuck, and Nathan Warren.
It was the general sentiment that as it was important to provide for the preservation and collection of historical material, also the compilation of historical material in the form of statistics of the City of Waltham, it seemed advisable to form a local historical society. It was voted that there be a public meeting for this purpose and on February 6, 1913, a meeting was held at the Mayor’s office and was attended by twenty-five persons. Upon motion of Alexander Starbuck, it was unanimously voted that an historical society be formed by those present, and Mr. Starbuck was elected first President.
A Permanent Society
Meetings were also held on March 14th and March 18th by which a permanent society was effected. Regular meetings were held during the years 1913 and 1914 and the first part of 1915. On March 16, 1915, the following persons who were among the officers of the Society made and signed an agreement of association for incorporation:
